Many methods to swap bodies have been used over the years, including swaps based on magic, science fiction, body transformations, reincarnations, and even face swapping as seen in Face/Off (1997). The story of a father and son switching bodies was incredibly popular upon its release, and it was instrumental in establishing and popularizing the genreās recognizable format. ![]() Perhaps the best literary example of body swap fiction is the 1882 novel Vice Versa by author Thomas Anstey Guthrie. Like many enduring film genres, body swapping on film was preceded by similar stories in literature. The body swap genre has existed since the early days of cinema. ![]()
